The right card is fake and the left card is authentic. Normally, you can tell if you have a fake authenticity card if it has a hologram, rainbow effect. Authentic cards never have this hologram effect. The fake card below is a good fake, since you cannot see the hologram effect. Authentic cards must also have the consistency of a credit card. In the case below, the fake card felt very flimsy and was easily bent.
Trying to determine if a designer item is counterfeit or authentic can be tricky. We worked with our brand experts to build this fun, interactive 'authentication quiz.' Do you have an eye for designer items? Can you spot the fakes? The best prices on the most desirable designers are almost always found onsecondhand sites. But there's always that nagging question: 'Is it reallyauthentic?'
It's so difficult to tell if you're getting an amazing deal or ifyou're getting ripped off with a fake. For hundreds or even thousands ofdollars!Of course. You could always just buy from Lollipuff.;) In any case, wehate fakes!
✓Correct ✘IncorrectThe bag on the left is a newcounterfeit. The one on the right is an authentic, vintage Chanelbag.
Once again, there are many errors on the counterfeit. Most obviousis the serial number on the left. 13297126 is a commonly usedcounterfeit number. If you see this number on a Chanel bag, it's bestnot to buy! It's important to be absolutely sure before making yourChanel purchases. We routinely see folks get. At Lollipuff, none of these fakes would ever have made it pastour experts.
✓Correct ✘IncorrectIt is authentic! Whenauthenticating, many photos should be reviewed to be 100% certain of itsauthenticity.
However, to authenticators, even only one photo can giveaway the true authenticity of an item. Note how the Louis Vuittonpattern is symmetrical when folded down the middle vertically, horizontally and diagonally? Notice how the hand-stitching is perfectand in signature yellow thread? Finally, notice how the handle hasdarkened to a orange brown due to use? Most counterfeit Louis Vuittonwill not have oxidizing leather and this coloring on the handle would bevery rare on a fake. ✓Correct ✘IncorrectThe Herve Leger dress on the leftis authentic.
On the fake gray Herve Leger dress (right), you can seethat all the bands are basically the same width. Most authentic Hervedresses will have bands of varying widths strategically placed toflatter a woman's figure. Many counterfeits have a thick heavy fabric(like the real deal), but the fit and stretch is very different. Also, authenticators need to be careful about tagging, as some schemers mayattach authentic tags to a fake dress. ✓Correct ✘IncorrectThe Chanel bag on the left isauthentic.
Look at the serial cards. Chanel serial cards never haveholographic numbers or bordering. On the fake, the card has multi-colorreflections. On an authentic bag, it is plain gold.
Also, '11127595'is a commonly used counterfeit serial. While it's possible to find thesingle, unique authentic bag with that number, the odds are vanishinglysmall. The serial number also suggests that the item was producedsometime in 2006-2008; this is not possible for this bag. Finally, thefont for the serial number is totally incorrect. ✓Correct ✘IncorrectThe Christian Louboutin shoes onthe left are counterfeit. Christian Louboutin boxes are made of a densehard cardboard. The box in the left photograph looks flimsy and iscreased in several spots (pretty uncommon for an authentic box).
Also, the lining on the inside of the fake shoe is crude andthick. Counterfeiters often place heel taps in a plastic zip bag.
Forauthentic Louboutins, heel taps will come in a tiny red ChristianLouboutin draw-string bag. Louboutin bottoms are made of leather coveredwith a beautiful red lacquer. The counterfeit on the left does not looklike leather. How did you do?! Let us know in the comments. As you can probably tellfrom this quiz, authenticating items from photos alone is a tall order. We expect that some of you will do really well. This quiz was created for a general audience and had very few 'hard' fakes.Just as a reminder.
